Blooms Winery on Whidbey

Ken and Virginia Bloom began making wine in 1998, and have continued to provide excellent hand crafted and award winning wines from their small winery on the bluff of Holmes Harbor on Whidbey Island.

Blooms produces around 400 cases per year, and every variety has achieved at least one award - the Bloom Vineyards Cabernet boasts six awards (three from Washington State including one Best of Show and three from California including two Silver Medals) and was written up as the Best Cabernet at the Taste Washington event in Seattle by wine writer Gene Stein.

The varieties include Bloom Vineyards, a Cabernet Sauvignon with grapes that come from the family vineyards in Mendocino County, CA; a Bordeaux style white blend called Calla; Whidbey White- a blend of Island grown and Yakima Valley grapes; a Semillon from Yakima Valley; our famous Ambrosia- a rhubarb wine "to fall in love with"; Mélange- a red blend featuring the spicy Lemberger grape; and coming soon... a red Rhone style blend called Poetry Red.

Private wine tastings are available at the winery, and Blooms is now part of a coop tasting room called Taste 4 Wines at Bayview Corner that is open to the public.

They continue the tradition of creating the fine wines that people have become accustomed to, and continue to achieve award winning success in doing so.

On the crest of Whidbey Island's Swede Hill, longtime friends David Ott and Eric Murphy handcraft Ott & Murphy Wines. Utilizing traditional French techniques, they focus on Washington State's diverse terroir, to create small lots of OM label wines. Showcasing fruit from 9 distinctive vineyards, Ott and Murphy create rich varietal wines and blends in small runs of 50 to 250 cases. Red and white Rhone blends are a focus, utilizing Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Counoise, Roussanne and Viognier, often co-fermented together. Other inspirations include a Tempranillo/Grenache, and a red Bordeaux blended from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. 2009 will mark our first 5 releases! Please join us at our new Whidbey Island co-operative tasting room, located in the historic Bayview Cash Store, and enjoy the collegial spirit of Whidbey Island's talented vintners. Established in 1990, this family winery, located near scenic Langley, has gained a reputation for wines of outstanding quality, balance and value. Whidbey Island Winery offers an extensive list of limited production wines for both red and white wine lovers from grapes grown on Whidbey and in eastern Washington’s finer vineyards.

Washington provides a rich palette to the winemaker, and we try to reflect this diversity in our wines; from our crisp fragrant estate grown whites, perfectly suited to the region's culinary treasures, to classic and unusual reds and whites from varieties grown in some of eastern Washington's finest vineyards.

We chose Whidbey Island as an ideal site for a vineyard and winery, planted the first grapes in 1986, and opened the winery doors in June of 1992 with 400 cases of wine. We now produce about 3500 cases a year, and distribute throughout western WA. Having gained a reputation for wines of outstanding quality, balance and value, we invite you to come discover our award-winning wines, enjoy the winery grounds, and learn more about grape growing and wine making.
